<p>Travel with Steamtown National Historic Site on a special evening excursion to Carbondale for Pioneer Nights in Carbondale, Pennsylvania. This late afternoon departure brings passengers through the Lackawanna Valley and arrives in time for one of Carbondale’s largest community celebrations, a multi day downtown festival featuring live music, food vendors, children’s activities, and a parade that runs through Main Street in the early evening.</p> <p>Upon arrival, guests will have time to explore the festival atmosphere at their own pace. Visitors can browse local food stands and craft vendors, enjoy live entertainment and family friendly activities, and take in the energy of downtown as crowds gather for the parade and evening events. Pioneer Nights is a long standing community tradition that highlights local pride and brings residents and visitors together for a summer celebration in the heart of the city.</p> <p>This excursion offers a convenient way to experience Pioneer Nights without the need for driving or parking, combining historic rail travel with direct access to one of the region’s most popular community events.</p> <p><strong>History</strong>: Carbondale’s present-day train station was built on the site of the Delaware and Hudson Seventh Avenue train station that was opened on February 1, 1896. Local and express trains, both north and south, from Carbondale arrived and departed from Carbondale on a daily basis. In the 1950s, as many as fifteen passenger trains departed daily from this station for Scranton.</p>
