<p>Join a Park Ranger and volunteer Fishing Ambassadors to Learn to Surf Fish!</p> <p>This family friendly program is designed for the absolute beginner to learn all about fishing. From basic tackle and casting techniques to stewardship and conservation. Park staff and volunteers will help you gain the knowledge to pick up fishing all on your own.</p> <p>This 2-hour program starts at 9:30 am at the Malaquite Visitor Center and begins with a classroom session and then moves down to Malaquite Beach to fish for approximately 45-60 minutes. All equipment is provided thanks to our friends at the IGFA! Participants should come prepared with what they need for the weather conditions, including sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, drinking water, and clothes that can get wet.</p> <p>Space is limited and advance registration is required. Signup by calling the Malaquite Visitor Center at 361-949-8068. <strong>You may signup beginning 7 days before each program date.</strong></p> <p>Children must be accompanied by a participating adult during the program. A fishing license is not required for this instructional program and all fishing is catch and release only.  </p>

Liczba miejsc ograniczona do 20 osób, wymagana wcześniejsza rejestracja. Zarezerwuj swoje miejsce, dzwoniąc do Malaquite Visitor Center pod numer 361-949-8068. Możliwość zapisów zaczyna się na 7 dni przed każdą datą programu. Prosimy o przyniesienie własnej maty do jogi/ręcznika, przyborów (klocki/pasków) i wody do picia. Visitor Center Trash Clean Up Event - 9/11 Day of Service

<p>Join us on September 11 Day of Service, by cleaning up the Malaquite Visitor Center. We will focus on picking up trash and litter in the areas surrounding the parking lot, along with parts of the dunes and Malaquite Beach if needed. This is a great opportunity to contribute to protecting vital ecosystems and enhancing the beauty of our beloved park. Come join the fun and make a positive impact for all ages!</p> <p>The clean-up event will begin at <strong>9:30 AM</strong>. We will have a brief discussion on safety and the movement of trash in our ocean.</p> <p>Please bring lots of water to drink, a snack, sunscreen, and dress for the weather. National Public Lands Day Insect BioBlitz

<div class="ui-widget" data-priority="" data-item-id="acdb8ae8-2535-4596-baeb-e497104e056a" data-aura-rendered-by="496:0"> <section class="afs-component"> <p>Are you passionate about insects and exploring biodiversity found in nature? Join us for an <strong>Insect Bioblitz, </strong>where citizen scientists will come together to identify as many insects as possible.</p> <p>The event will be held on September 26^th, 2026, to celebrate National Public Lands Day, the nation’s largest single-day volunteer event.</p> <p>All experience levels are welcome to participate in the event, but they must commit to the FULL six hours. Volunteers will utilize iNaturalist, an app that will help identify and record the species that are found. Observations will be uploaded to the <em>“PAIS NPLD Insect BioBlitz”</em> iNaturalist project. Sign up is <strong>required</strong> for this event.</p> <p>Volunteers under the age of 18 MUST have a parent or guardian present at the event. Please email <a href="mailto:avery_landreth@partner.nps.gov" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">avery_landreth@partner.nps.gov</a> if you are a volunteer under the age of 18.</p> <p><em> </em><strong>Before the Event</strong></p> <ul> <li>Please have iNaturalist downloaded on a device that can take photographs OR be able to easily transfer data from a camera to iNaturalist</li> <li>Meet at the Malaquite Visitor Center at 8 AM for an iNaturalist and insect crash course</li> </ul> <p><strong>What to Bring</strong></p> <ul> <li>Lunch, sunscreen, <strong>plenty of water</strong></li> <li>Wear protective clothing for being out in the field</li> <li>Close toed shoes</li> <li>A <strong>device to take photographs</strong> for uploading images to iNaturalist</li> </ul> <p>We will provide nets, collection vials, and forceps. They will help volunteers with iNaturalist and have <em>some </em>knowledge of insect identification.
