Join a National Park Ranger on a quest to discover the hidden systems that keep a forest running and learn how to explore in a whole new way!</p> <p>This hike is 0.53 miles long on a paved trail with some rough and uneven spots. Bring a hat, sunscreen, bug spray, and a water bottle. Approx. 1 hour.</p>

<p>Feeling like you practically need to be a computer programmer just to get through everyday tasks? If you’re craving a break from screens and passwords, come reconnect with real, hands‑on skills with the Tombigbee Pioneers living history group, who join us at the Natchez Trace Parkway Visitor Center (milepost 266) on the fourth Saturday of the month throughout the summer and fall!</p> <p>Try traditional activities like basket weaving, spinning wool, making old‑fashioned dolls, woodworking, early American musical instruments, doily tatting, and more. It’s a chance to slow down, create something tangible, and enjoy the kinds of skills people once used every day—no tech support required.</p>

Birding for Beginners | Chickasaw Village (MP 261.8)

<p><span data-teams="true">When we pause to notice the birds and wildlife around us, we unlock a sense of wonder and connection with the natural world. Join a ranger to learn the basics of bird identification while walking a short section of the Natchez Trace National Scenic Trail beginning at Chickasaw Village, Milepost 261.8. Binoculars will be available to borrow if needed. Close-toed shoes, bug spray, and a device with the Merlin app are recommended.</span></p>

Crossroads of History: Meriwether Lewis on the Natchez Trace | Meriwether Lewis Visitor Information Center (MP 386)

<p>Places take shape from the people who move through them, and the Natchez Trace is no exception. For more than ten thousand years, travelers have left their mark on this ancient corridor, using the Old Trace for travel, trade, conflict, and connection. American explorer Meriwether Lewis was among those travelers. He walked this road on his final journey in 1809.</p> <p>Join a ranger for a relaxed forty-five-minute walk to explore the history of the Natchez Trace and Lewis’s connection to it. Please dress for rain or shine, wear comfortable walking or hiking shoes, and bring bug repellent since it is bug season.</p> <p>We will meet at the main restroom parking lot at Milepost 386 on the Natchez Trace Parkway on Saturday, August 22, 2026, staring at 10:00 AM. See you there!</p>

Where the Woods Watch: Folklore, Legends, and Outlaws Along the Old Trace | Chickasaw Village (MP 261.8)

<p>Take a step back in time and explore the frontier-era crimes, legends, and folklore whispered through generations along old Natchez Trace. This ranger-led walk will explore the criminals and unexplained phenomenon that lurk behind the trees.</p> <p>Those in attendance should wear sunscreen, bug spray, and comfortable walking shoes. Bring plenty of water for the walk.</p>
