Concord's North Bridge: History and Memory

<p>At 11:00 a.m. meet a Park Ranger at the benches by the North Bridge for this daily 30 minute program. Learn about the momentous battle at Concord’s North Bridge, where the British Army suffered its first casualties of the war, and the legacy of this event in American History.</p> <p>This event is co-sponsored by the <a href="https://friendsofminuteman.org">Friends of Minute Man National Park</a></p>

Lokalizacja: The program meets at the eastern bank of Concord's North Bridge which is around 400 feet from the North Bridge parking lot located along Monument Street. There is a crosswalk connecting the bridge trail to the parking lot. The program can be accessed via a wide dirt walking trail. The trail is leveled and has a slight slope leading down to the bridge. There are sitting bench options both at the program location and located along the trail. Some program guides may move from one side of the bridge to the other (east to west). The bridge itself is roughly 140 Feet long and slightly arched. There are limited sitting benches on the opposite (west) side of the bridge.

The Minute Men: Neighbors in Arms

<p>What did it mean to be a minute man in 1775? How were they trained and armed? Join a park ranger at the historic Hartwell Tavern in Lincoln MA, where John and Isaac Hartwell, two minute men from the town of Lincoln, lived. Discover the motivations and realities faced by those who volunteered to be “ready at a minute’s warning.” This program may include a musket firing demonstration. Visitors with hearing concerns should exercise caution.</p>

Lokalizacja: The program takes place at the Hartwell Tavern which is located on the Battle Road Trail in Lincoln. The parking area is off of Rt.2A, approximately 1.5 miles west of the I-95/Rt128 ramp.

Memories of Elm Brook Hill

<p>Join us for a special walk of the Elm Brook Hill battle site. Edmund Foster, a militiaman from Reading, Massachusetts (portrayed by park volunteer, Ed Hurley) and Mary Hartwell (portrayed by park volunteer, Bev Malone) will lead guests on a guided tour to the Elm Brook Hill (Bloody Angle) Battle Site. <h2><strong>Help Us Decorate for Hartwell Halloween</strong><strong>!</strong> </h2> <p>If you are interested in contributing a jack-o-lantern for our spooky art display on the trail to Hartwell Tavern, you may drop off carved pumpkins at Minute Man Visitor Center (Rt. 2A Lexington) on Thursday, October 29, Friday, October 30 between 9 am and 4 pm, or Saturday, October 31 between 9 am and 2 pm. The pumpkins will be illuminated and displayed at Hartwell during the program on the evening of Saturday, October 31st.</p> <p>If you would like to take yours home you may pick it up Saturday after the programs or Sunday. Otherwise we will “donate” them to the local wildlife.</p> <p>* Note: Minute Man Staff will place lights in each lantern. Please leave lights with staff after the program.</p> <p>pumpkin designs can be funny, happy, scary or as weird as you want- but they must be family friendly. We will not display inappropriate pumpkins. Please do not treat pumpkins with any chemicals or other materials.</p>

Hartwell Halloween & Trick or Treat

<p><strong><span data-contrast="none">Hartwell Halloween &amp; Trick-or-Treat</span></strong><br /><strong><span data-contrast="none">Hartwell Tavern</span></strong> <br /><strong><span data-contrast="none">6:00 pm – 8:30 pm</span></strong></p> <p><span data-contrast="none">Do you believe in ghosts? Do you like history? Jack o’ Lanterns? Colonial music and dancing? Then come visit us at Hartwell Tavern! Walk down a path lighted by dozens of jack-o-lanterns. Talk with rangers and volunteers about ghostly folklore and how the people of Colonial New England protected themselves from evil spirits and witches. Enjoy authentic music and dancing of the colonial period.</span></p> <p><strong>For trick-or-treaters of all ages the Friends of Minute Man will be offering individually wrapped candy so don your costumes and come trick-or-treating at an 18th century Tavern! </strong></p> <p><span data-contrast="none">This program will be both outdoors and indoors.
