Canyon Rim Walk

<p>Join a ranger for a hike along one of the short trails near the Visitor Center.  Learn about the history, geology, plants, and animals of the monument.  The hike will be on a fairly level, easy trail and the total distance will not exceed one mile. </p> <p>Bring water, sunscreen, snacks, and your questions!  Closed toed shoes are recommended.  Meet the ranger at the Visitor Center at 8am.  This program will be cancelled in the event of a thunderstorm or other inclement weather.</p> <p><em>Español: </em></p> <p><em>Únase a un guardaparque para una caminata en uno de los senderos cortos cerca del Centro de Visitantes. Aprende sobre la historia, geología, plantas, y animales del monumento. Astronomy Night

<p>Meet at Saddlehorn Picnic Area to begin your journey of exploring and learning about our night skies through telescopes and a ranger program.</p> <p>Please arrive at least 10 minutes before the start of the program to minimize headlight and flashlight lights.  If you have one, use a red flashlight. This will help preserve everyone's night vision.</p> <p>Bring a chair and insect repellant for your comfort.</p> <p>Bringing pets is not recommended due to safety concerns.  Service dogs are welcome.</p> <p>This is a weather permitting event and is subject to be cancelled.</p> <p>If the weather is too cloudy for astronomy viewing, the program might be moved to the Saddlehorn Ampitheatre.</p> <p><em>Español: </em></p> <p><em>Reúnase en el área de pícnic de Saddlehorn para comenzar su viaje de exploración y aprendizaje sobre nuestros cielos nocturnes a través de telescopios y un programa de guardaparques. </em></p> <p><em>Por favor, llegue al menos 10 minutes antes del inicio del programa para minimizar las luces de los faros y linternas. The Many Faces of Coyote

<p>Join us for an evening program that's a 'howl' of a good time as we explore the wide world of the North American coyote and the many roles this unassuming little dog plays in biology, culture, and myth.  Warning: some yapping, barking, and yipping may occur.</p> <p>This event may be cancelled in the event of inclement weather.  Please be aware that the monument is now in Stage II fire restrictions.  No fires and no smoking outside of your vehicle.</p>

Evening Program: Our Night Skies

<p>Join Ranger Miki at the Saddlehorn Amphitheater for an evening program, Our Night Skies.  It's recommended that you bring a flashlight and insect repellent.</p> <p>Parking is available at the Saddlehorn Picnic Area. </p> <p>In the event of inclement weather, this program may be cancelled.</p> <p><em>Español: </em></p> <p><em>Únase con Guardaparque Miki en el Anfiteatro Saddlehorn (“</em>Saddlehorn Amphitheater”)<em> para un programa nocturno sobre </em><u>El Cielo Nocturno</u><em>. Then & Now - National Park Service Birthday

<p>The legacy of Colorado National Monument traces back to the visionaries like John Otto, whose foresight and passion for preserving the beauty of the land led to its establishment in 1911. Over the years, many others have recognized the significance of this unique landscape and worked tirelessly to protect and preserve it.</p> <p class="x_elementToProof">Join Terri Ahern, on the National Park Service's 110th birthday, as she shares her passion and knowledge of this beautiful landscape through photos and storytelling at the Visitor Center.</p> <p class="x_elementToProof">Terri and her husband, Rick, moved to the “best slope” in 2000 after falling in love with the high desert canyon country. She has been a volunteer at the Colorado National Monument since April 2006 as a Trail Ambassador, and assists with special projects in the Cultural &amp; Natural Resources Division and enjoys the annual Desert Bighorn Sheep Count. Terri currently leads hikes for active adults &amp; seniors through the City of Fruita Community Center.</p> <ul> <li>RSVP’s not required, this is a fee free day to celebrate the National Park Service's birthday.</li> </ul>

Lunar Eclipse 2026

<p>Join a ranger to view the 2026 lunar eclipse at the Saddlehorn Picnic Area parking lot.  Eclipse coverage will be 96% and we'll have telescopes set up for you to get a closer look!  </p> <p>Please arrive 15 minutes early if you're driving, so that headlights don't affect everyone's night vision. Bringing pets is not recommended for safety concerns.  Please bring a chair, water, and insect repellent.</p> <p>If you're camping, we recommend walking.  If you're coming from outside the park, please carpool if possible.  The monument is open 24 hours a day.  Please be careful while driving, as wildlife could be in the roadway.</p> <p>This is a weather permitting event and may be cancelled in the event of thunderstorms. </p>
