Coralie Franklin Cook and the Woman’s Suffrage Movement’s Unfinished Story

Join the Belmont-Paul Women’s Equality National Monument in celebrating Women’s History Month with a lecture by Lex Musta on Coralie Franklin Cook, an educator and suffrage advocate whose life broadens the story of women’s equality. Learn how Cook’s work—from sharing the stage with Clara Barton in the Women’s Building at the 1895 Atlanta exposition, to her role in co‑founding the National Association of Colored Women’s Clubs in 1896, to her service on the National Council of Women’s Referrals Committee in 1899, to her 1900 NAWSA speech and tribute at Susan B. Anthony’s 80th birthday, and her support for Howard University’s participation in the 1913 Woman Suffrage Procession—illuminates enduring questions about inclusion and full citizenship. This program explores Cook’s contributions to women’s social, political, and economic equality and her connection to the generations of activists represented in this historic headquarters.
