<p>Come make patriotic Paper Lanterns at the Birthplace Visitor Center. Also both park units, the Birthplace and Boyhood Home at Knob Creek will be offering BINGO. If the kids complete the BINGO card, they will receive a special Jr. Ranger Pin. </p>

Building America Brick Challenge

<p>As America commemorates the 250th anniversary of its founding, Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park invites visitors to connect with the national commemoration through “Connections” events. One event in the series, the Building America challenge, invites youth to explore the people, places, ideas and innovations that have shaped the nation through creativity and brick-building.</p> <p>The challenge will be on Aug. 29 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. EDT at Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park in Hodgenville, Kentucky.</p> <p>In the Building America challenge, youth participants will create original builds inspired by the theme “Building America.” Possible topics include American history, Abraham Lincoln, national parks and monuments, famous Americans, transportation and innovation, community and civic life, patriotic themes, America's future and 250th anniversary themes.</p> <p>The competition is open to youth ages 18 and under and will feature four age divisions. Participation is free, but advance registration is required. Registration will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, with limited spaces available in each age division. Sean of the South Concert

<p>As the nation commemorates America’s 250th anniversary, Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park invites visitors to explore the enduring ideals of liberty, equality and self-government through its Freedom 250 Connections event series. On Saturday, Sept. 26, nationally acclaimed writer and performer Sean Dietrich, better known as "Sean of the South," will bring those themes to life through an evening of music, storytelling and humor. The program begins at 5:30 p.m. EDT at the park's Birthplace Unit.</p> <p>"As we celebrate our nation's 250th anniversary, we have an opportunity to reflect on the ideals of liberty, equality and self-government that shaped America's founding and that Abraham Lincoln worked to preserve," said <strong>Superintendent Joshua Manley. </strong>"Sean Dietrich's performance brings those enduring ideals to life through music and storytelling, offering visitors a meaningful way to connect with America's story."</p> <p>Sean Dietrich is a nationally recognized columnist, humorist, musician and storyteller whose work celebrates the people and traditions of the American South. His writing has appeared in <em>Newsweek</em>, <em>Southern Living</em>, <em>Garden &amp; Gun</em> and <em>Reader's Digest</em>, and has been featured on <em>The Today Show</em>. He is the author of 18 books, has written more than 4,000 newspaper columns, hosts the popular <em>Sean of the South</em> podcast and regularly performs his one-man show for audiences across the country.</p> <p>Through music, humor and heartfelt storytelling, Dietrich celebrates the traditions and experiences that have shaped generations of Americans. Many of the songs featured during the performance are songs Abraham Lincoln would have known during his lifetime, offering visitors a window into the cultural world that influenced one of the nation's most significant leaders and the ideals he carried forward.</p> <p>Accessible parking for the event will be at the Birthplace Visitor Center Parking Lot.  All other attendees will park at Abraham Lincoln Elementary School, where complimentary shuttle service will transport visitors to the Birthplace Unit.  Shuttle services will begin from the Abraham Lincoln Elementary School parking lot the day of the concert at 3:00 p.m. EDT.  </p> <p>Visitors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets and hand-carried coolers. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited within the park.</p> <p>The event is free and open to the public; however, advance registration is required. War of the Worlds Broadcast

<p>"No one would have believed in the last years of the nineteenth century that this world was being watched keenly and closely by intelligences greater than man’s and yet as mortal as his own..."    H.G. Wells  War of the Worlds</p> <p>During the month of October, the park will mark the anniversary of the 1938 broadcast of H. G. Wells adaptation of "War of the Worlds" at the Knob Creek Tavern Visitor Center.  Each day the visitor center is open, at 1:00pm (EST) the park will play the original broadcast on the 1930s reproduction Tavern radio.  Come and enjoy this well-known broadcast in honor of the Halloween Season.</p> <p>Program is free and open to the public.  No reservations are required. </p>

Fall Night Sky Program

<p>Come out to the park and enjoy an evening under the stars! Special guest lecturer Dr. Mark Pitts, professor of Physics, Geosciences and Astronomy from Eastern Kentucky University, will be on hand to explain night sky phenomena that can been seen the night of the event and will lead an exploration of the sights. Telescopes will be provided for free viewing of the stars, planets and other wonders of the universe.</p> <p>Program will be held at the Boyhood Home Unit at Knob Creek.</p> <p>Event is free and open to the public. No reservations are required.</p>
